The Gillies Story

In the early 1920s, there were no roads from the coast to the Atherton Tablelands. The Gillies Range Road was the first of four major range crossings linking Cairns with its hinterland and remains one of the most scenic drives in Australia. For a century it has stood as one of Far North Queensland’s most significant engineering achievements and has played a vital role in connecting the coastal city of Cairns with the rich agricultural lands of the Atherton Tablelands.
